The Village of North Randall is dedicated to providing the best education possible for our younger residents. North Randall, along with Warrensville Heights and the Village of Highland Hills, make up the Warrensville Heights School District (WHSD). WHSD is dedicated to preparing its students for their future so that they can be successful and prosperous in everything that they do. With STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum, WHSD focuses on finding students’ passions and encouraging them to hone in on their skills to better themselves and their chances of being successful in their futures careers.

History

The area that we now know as North Randall originated as Plank Road Station in the 1800’s. With the opening of the Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad in 1857, settlers came from all over, opening the farming communities to expansion and rapid growth. In 1908, with the establishment of the Village, the North Randall Park Race Track was opened and soon gained a favorable reputation around the states. Due to the popularity of the track, North Randall’s main industry became the breeding and training of trotting horses. In 1925, the Thistledown Race Track was opened to accommodate the growing popularity of horseracing in the area. Thistledown eventually became home to the Ohio Derby, a highly anticipated race held every June. The North Randall Park Race Track was bought in 1960 and by 1975 it had been torn down and replaced with the Randall Park Mall, one of the largest shopping complexes in the country at the time. Since the mall’s closing date in 2009, the property has been bought by Amazon and construction on the new Amazon fulfillment center has begun. The center is predicted to be completed in 2018 and will employ over 2,000 North Randall and Cuyahoga County residents. The Amazon development along with the renovation of the Jack Thistledown Racino in 2016 has propelled North Randall forward as an up and coming community that will flourish for years to come.
